The History of Cannabis
What is the Endocannabinoid system?
This is a communications system which affects many aspects of human function which include how a person feels, moves and reacts. This system is composed of chemicals called cannabinoids (Anandamine and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol) which react naturally with cannabinoid receptors. These Cannabinoids react by slowing down communication between cells.
What is CBD?
Composed of 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms, CBD is a compound in cannabis that contains many significant medical benefits but does not cause the psychoactive effects of THC, it can actually counteract them. Chemically it is still considered psychoactive due to its molecular properties and its ability to bind to neuron receptors. This allows for it to be used to promote relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, seizures and spasms without causing feelings of lethargy or dysphoria
What is THC?
Similarly to CBD, THC is composed of 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. The thing that differentiates these two is the arrangement of their molecules. THC has the ability to create a strong bond with the CB1 receptors which cause a feeling of euphoria. This gives it a potential medical use to treat certain conditions such as muscle spasms, anxiety, insomnia, glaucoma, low appetite, and nausea.
